Beberapa aplikasi penting untuk MacOSX

Menggunakan Mac sungguh menyenangkan. Membuat hidup serasa indah dan mudah. Berbagai aplikasi inovatif dan atraktif pun tersedia. Sudah cukup banyak yang saya coba dan install mulai dari yang versi demo, free, maupun yang kraked. Beberapa yang menurut saya pantas dicoba adalah sebagai berikut.

1. iWork 08
Sebagai aplikasi office yang lengkap, iWork membundle trio aplikasi yang super keren. Tentu saja anda dan saya sudah tahu tentang aplikasi-aplikasi tersebut. Keynote sang presenter, Numbers sang penghitung dan Pages sang pengganti Ms. Word.

2. Microsoft Office for Mac 2008
Tidak ada alasan khusus kenapa saya menginstall dua macam office suite seperti ini. Saya hanya ingin mencoba fitur-fitur yang ditawarkan oleh Microsoft pada produk office suite nya ini di Mac. Dengan interface yang cukup fancy, rasanya tidak ada salahnya untuk menyandingkan office suite ini dengan iWork yang elegan. Siapa tahu anda juga butuh sekedar “penyegaran” seperti saya.

3. Adobe Photoshop
Aplikasi ini, seperti yang anda tahu, adalah image editor yang menawarkan beragam fitur dan beragam fungsi editing. Meskipun anda bukan seorang desainer, tidak ada salahnya menginstall aplikasi ini.

4. Stuffit Deluxe
Menawarkan fitur kompresi dekompresi file dalam berbagai format. Sangat berguna mengingat banyak sekali file yang didistribusikan dalam format terkompresi.

5. Missing Sync for Windows Mobile
Sepertinya saya masih belum bisa sepenuhnya terlepas dari jerat Windows. Telepon genggam saya menggunakan Windows Mobile 6. Sehingga agar dapat tetap tersinkronisasi dengan Mac, saya gunakan aplikasi ini.

6. Comic Life
Hampir saja lupa. Anda termasuk orang iseng yang kreatif? Sangat direkomendasi untuk menginstall aplikasi ini. Membuat komik dari koleksi foto-foto yang anda miliki. Keren!

7. Toast Titanium
Bakar-membakar file dalam CD/DVD? Membuat image CD/DVD? Saya menggunakan Toast Titanium.

8. iLife
Saya hanya menginstall beberapa aplikasi dari iLife ini, tidak seluruhnya. Sebab untuk menginstall semua aplikasi yang terbundel dalam iLife, dibutuhkan cukup banyak space hardisk. Berhubung saya tidak terlalu memerlukan Garage Band, saya exclude saja dari proses instalasi.

9. Chicken of the VNC
Urusan remote meremote server. Serahkan saja pada Chicken of the VNC. Cool!

10. Skitch
Capture screen seluruh layar maupun sebagian? Langsung upload ke skitch.com dan share di forum atau blog. Mantab!

11. Quicksilver
Another spotlight

12. EventBox
Feed Reader, fetch dari Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Reddit, Pownce, Digg. Tidak perlu susah-susah membuka browser. Praktis!

13. AppZapper, CleanApp
Uninstall aplikasi secara total

14. Camino, Opera, Firefox
Browser yang ciamik!

15. CrossOver
Bagi para switcher yang belum bisa sepenuhnya lepas dari Windows.

16. HexEdit
Hex Editing, tentu saja.

17. EverSave
Tidak perlu khawatir dokumen belum tersimpan saat ada aplikasi crash.

18. Back in Time
Aplikasi yang bekerja sama dengan Time Machine, lebih banyak fitur.

19. Desktop Manager
Bila rindu dengan Cube nya Fusion.

20. MPlayer OSX
Punya file multimedia yang susah dibuka? Pakai saja MPlayer.

21. iKana
Siapa tahu kesampean pergi ke Jepang. Jadi perlu latihan dari sekarang.

Dan beragam aplikasi lainnya. Sudah lumayan capek nih nulisnya. Dengan sekian banyak aplikasi terinstall, belum lagi ditambah bawaan Mac, maka jadi seperti inilah Dock dan menubar saya.

Kalyway Combo Update 10.5.5

Sudah agak lama sih, tapi ga papa di bahas lagi mengenai mengupdate sistem hackintosh ke versi terakhir 10.5.5
Disadur dari situsnya Bike Town dengan sangat acak-acakan tetapi tidak merubah isinya.

Bahan-bahan :

1. Pre update dan post update patch
2. Combo update resmi dari Apple Inc.

Langkah-langkah *memasak?* :

1. Di dalam file Archive1.1.5.zip terdapat 2 file pre dan post update, taro dalam satu folder dengan combo update dari Apple Inc.
2. Jalankan prepare for combo update patch. JANGAN RESTART!
3. Jalankan combo update resmi dari Apple Inc. JANGAN RESTART!
4. Jalankan post combo update patch. Customize pilihan nya, jika sudah selesai, RESTART!
PERHATIKAN URUTAN LANGKAH-LANGKAH DIATAS, JANGAN TERBALIK-BALIK!

Keterangan customize option :

KERNEL :

~ 9.2.0 ToH: Merupakan kernel 9.2.0 ToH Sleep, aman untuk digunakan, tetapi tidak disarankan, lebih disarankan menggunakan versi 9.4.0.
~ 9.4.0 StageXNU: Jika ga ngerti musti pilih mana, pilih ini aja.
~ 9.5.0 Vanilla: Untuk prosesor INTEL keluarga core (dual/quad) dengan chipset INTEL. Termasuk perbaikan mengenai shutdown/restart/sleep. Tetapi ada kemungkinan gagal bila kita ga punya sistem yang kompatibel. Dapat menyebabkan reboot yang berkepanjangan. Hati-hati memilih. Meskipun saya menggunakan kernel versi ini sekarang.
~ Voodoo Magic : Masih beta, silakan pake jika anda seorang developer.

CHIPSET :

~ Intel : Jangan lupa setting AHCI di bios
~ VIA : Untuk yang menggunakan chipset via
~ Nforce : Tidak diperlukan bila sudah memiliki versi tes yang terakhir. Tetapi meskipun dipilih, bila yang sudah ada lebih baru, tidak teroverwrite kok.
~ Intel : Untuk yang tidak memiliki opsi AHCI di biosnya.
~ Just restore : menggunakan driver-driver dari 10.5.x (sebelumnya)

VIDEO :

~ ATI : Untuk ATI XT1950 dengan device id 7180 7299
~ Intel : GMA 900, GMA 950 dan GMA 3100.
~ NVIDIA : Untuk nvidia. Bagi yang memiliki mobo dengan chipset nforce harus memilih juga nforce fixed nvidia gfx juga.

AUDIO :

~ ALC : Untuk ALC, belum tau bisa apa enggak
~ HDA : HDAenabler (bukan untuk conexant)
~ ADI : bukan driver, tapi installer, setelah update silakan install manual di folder Applications.
~ Just Restore : tetap memakai driver dari versi sebelumnya

NETWORK

~ Just Restore : pake yang lama
~ Marvel Yukon/2 : untuk kartu jaringan dengan chipset dari yukon.

FUNGSI SISTEM :

~ SMBIOS : MacPro untuk desktop PC, Macbook untuk laptop (keterangan di about this mac)
~ USB 2.0 Controller Fix : untuk USB yang sama sekali tidak dikenali sistem, bukan untuk yang karena tidak ter-mount otomatis, baca postingan sebelumnya untuk masalah ini.
~ ACPI-APIC : Bila tadi milih kernel diatas bukan yang vanilla, boleh memakai ini, bila memilih vanilla, jangan pilih opsi ini!
~ PS/2 - Battery Meter : Tau lah, keyboard mouse dan battery untuk pengguna laptop
~ Additional fixes : Ga usah dipilih

DSMOS FIX :

~ DSMOS Script Fix: untuk yang bermasalah dengan dsmos nya.


Note :

untuk laptop saya Compaq V3105TU opsi yang saya pilih (update dari kalyway 10.5.2) :

~ Kernel : Vanilla
~ Chipset : Intel yang tanpa AHCI
~ Video : Intel GMA950
~ Audio : Just Restore (Conexant memakai Azalia)
~ Network : Just Restore
~ Fungsi sistem : PS/2 - Battery Meter
~ DSMOS Fix : No

Update berhasil, tetapi ada masalah dengan keyboard dan trackpad nya. ga dikenali sama sekali.
usut punya usut, iseng punya iseng, replace aja ApplePS2Controller.kext di /S/L/E dengan yang lama… bisa di dapet di backup nya…
lah, gimana caranya ganti orang keyboard sama mouse disabled? ga keabisan akal, pake mouse USB, download virtual keyboard, trus klak klik deh…
abis kopi paste, restart,,, and all done! keyboard dan trackpad nyala lagi…

Pixelview PlayTV Pro BT878 + FM in Ubuntu

As I finish to install Ubuntu in my Desktop (Hey, where is my Gentoo?), I need to get all things works.

No need too much talk, let’s start the documentation.

First thing to do is find out what kind of chipset your TV card use. There are lots kind of chipset out there, lots enough to make you crazy if you’re planning to try them one by one. I’m using Pixelview PlayTV Pro with BT878 Chipset (you can find this information in your TV card, yap just right there! ) so I will focus this documentation to this kind of card, if you have any other kind of chipset, you may find the answer here.

If you’re sure that your card just like mine, you may continue reading, but if not, I think you should move your mouse to close this tab and find another blog. Hehehe, just kidding.

Okay, lets begin with check if the card already recognized by the system, type the following command in your terminal, you may doing “su” or “sudo -s” to switch your account to root first.

dmesg | grep Bt

the output should like this :

Congratulation, your card has been recognized by your system. Add the “bttv” to the /etc/modules. Just put it at the end of the file. As root, type :

echo "bttv" >> /etc/modules

Then create a file named Bttv under /etc/modprobe.d/ directory, as root, type :

gedit /etc/modprobe.d/Bttv

Copy and paste the following script :

This line “options bttv card=37 tuner=30 radio=1 pll=1 adc_crush=0“, as I told you before that I’m using Pixelview PlayTV Pro, according to the CARDLIST, it has number 37. My chipset is bt878, but which one should I use? I starting to pay more attention in every detail information in my TV card. I found that it has detail model “FM1216″, just search it in the page then I find the number of my tuner is 30. That’s how I found that number. And then, because my TV card is also support radio (+FM), I’m telling the system that I’m using radio (radio=1).

After all that pain, you may now install TV application you like, I recommend you tvtime or xawtv, and for the radio, use gnomeradio. If you install xawtv, the configuration file is under your /home (~/.xawtv) directory.
Run this command before launch xawtv to start scan tv channels :

scantv -C /dev/vbi0 -s -o ~/.xawtv

for Indonesia, make sure you choose PAL-BG or PAL, and for the channel table, choose West-Europe or Europe. Then run xawtv

xawtv -c /dev/vbi0

Until this step, you should be able to watch Shinchan or Doraemon already. Don’t miss Mancing Mania every Sunday at 4 PM! ^^

Note :

1. Indonesian should use PAL or PAL-BG and West-Europe or Europe for channel table.
2. Make sure you have already set your VGA card by installing the proper driver.
3. The CARDLIST and tuner number can be found here.
4. Pay attention in every detail information in you TV card.
5. To listening radio, make sure you change the Radio Source to /dev/radio0 (default /dev/radio)
6. Enjoy your tv and radio using Pixelview PlayTV Pro in your linux.

Meet My New Mac Pro

I just successfully transform my Compaq laptop into MacPro. I’m quite familiar with the installation since it was not my first time. I already use 10.4.8, The Tiger in my Desktop. And I used to have Leopard 10.5.0 in my iBook. Using the installer of Leopard Kalyway 10.5.2 that I bought from e-store couple days ago. It was a short installation, almost all of my hardware had been recognized by default. The driver of my graphic card, Intel 945GM Express, was successfully loaded with Intel GMA 950 driver that was available in the installation menu. My soundcard, *which I forget the detail* was also recognized and installed using the Intel Conexant High Definition Audio Driver (HDA). Event the multimedia button, for tuning the volume of the audio in front of the display, also been recognized and installed. The only one I couldn’t use was my WLAN card. I’m using Intel PRO 3945 Wireless LAN Card. It has no driver yet for Mac. Too bad actually, but it’s okay. I still can using my Ethernet card, Intel Pro. I need to install the driver before it be recognized by the system.

The installation only took about 45 minutes for the system. And it was very easy and fun. And then voila! The very cool welcome screen appears in my LCD. Cool! The very first thing to do is check that my important devices been recognized by the system. There are some devices that needs the driver installed before I could use. And some device needs to be tweak a little before it working properly. Just like my Universal Serial Bus port. By default, my USB mice was recognized and working properly. Just when I’m about to using my USB Mass Storage, it display nothing. My USB Mass Storage was not recognized at all!

Then I begin to search for the solution of this problem. And thank God I found it in insanelymac.com. It said that the one of cause of the problem is that there are mismatch between my kernel version and my System.kext. When I uname -a, my system says that I have kernel 9.2.0, but when I crosscheck my System.kext in my /System/Library/Extensions has the version 9.2.2 of System.kext! So I replace my System.kext with the old version, 9.2.0, repair the permission and then restart my system. After that, I need to check the kext system that has been loaded by the system. I wrote kextstat |grep “USB” in my terminal. The output just like below :

So, My IOUSBMassStorageClass was not loaded by the system, so I load manually with

kextload -b com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass

Then I once again check it with the kextstat |grep “USB”, it says that my IOUSBMassStorageClass is now loaded. Then I check by connect my USB Mass Storage to the port. And yes, its now working! Nice!

I’ve installed some cool application like iLife (excluding the Garage Band *I don’t really need it now*), iWork 08, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Camino for the web browser, and some other cool applications. I even install Final Cut Pro and it working nicely. I can also using my USB Mass Storage as my backup disk of the amazing Time Machine apps.

Upgrade ke Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2

Oke, akhirnya saya menambahkan satu kategori n tag baru blog ini, tentang Apple dan Mac! Hahaha, akhirnya saya menjadi seorang switcher! Sudah saatnya ngoprek Mac OS nih! *halah, sok-sokan*

Pagi ini, sebelum subuh, saya memang sudah meniatkan dari sore untuk bangun sangat awal. Apa pasal?Untuk upgrade sistem saya dari 10.5.1 ke 10.5.2! Memang saya memilih waktu sebelum subuh untuk mencuri-curi bandwidth kampus. Biasanya kalau jam-jam segini, penghuni kampus masih terlelap dalam tidurnya, belum sempet ikut-ikutan menjarah bandwidth yang hanya seberapa ini *kampus teknologi segede ini kok miskin benwit, sungguh menyedihkan*. Makanya, kalo jam-jam segini biasanya koneksi internet cukup kencang. Untuk itulah saya sengaja mengeset alarm di HP saya agar mau membangunkan saya jam 3.30 pagi!

Sudah lama kita tahu “perseteruan” yang terjadi antara proprietary dan kalangan open source. Siapa yang menang? Tidak ada! Setidaknya hingga saat ini. Menarik memang bila kita memperhatikan hal ini. Disatu sisi banyak orang beranggapan bahwa apa yang dilakukan Bill Gates, “menyembunyikan” source code dari berbagai software termasuk sistem operasi yang sedemikian mendunia, yang diproduksi perusahaan miliknya, Microsoft, adalah sebuah kesalahan. Banyak yang beranggapan bahwa closed-source policy adalah sesuatu yang tidak mendidik, harus dihentikan dan tidak boleh ada lagi. Mungkin ini juga menjadi salah satu alasan terbentuknya komunitas open source yang memiliki pemahaman bahwa setiap kode yang ditulis itu bisa dikopi, diperbanyak, dimodifikasi atau bahkan dijual dengan persyaratan tertentu oleh setiap orang.

Y2K Windows vs Y2K38 Linux

Tak hanya Windows yang memiliki permasalahan Y2K, Linux pun Punya Y2K38 atau Y2.038K!

Pagi ini, saya jalan-jalan ke beberapa blog yang menarik. Ada satu tulisan yang menarik perhatian saya tentang permasalahan yang akan dihadapi OS Linux. Artikel berjudul “Linux Went to Year 2038 Problem” yang merujuk pada artikel di wikipedia dan official site-nya ini memberitakan bahwa Linux akan mengalami masalah pada 19 Januari 2038 pukul 03:14:08 UTC atau sekitar pukul 10:14:08 WIB.

GRUB Hilang/Install GRUB? : Tulisan Cupu

Tulisan kali ini benar-benar cupu, tetapi siapa tahu diluar sana masih ada beberapa user yang mengalami permasalahan yang sama. Kebetulan saya sudah dahulu tahu, bukan pinter, jadi tidak ada salahnya saya menjawab pertanyaan anda sebelum anda menanyakannya.

Jika anda seperti saya, yang masih dalam fase transisi, menginstall linux+win pada hardisk yang sama dan bootloadernya anda letakkan pada MBR, maka permasalahan seperti ini seringkali muncul. Terlebih lagi ketika anda harus me-re-install win anda. Bisa dijamin MBR anda akan ditimpa oleh win, saya masih belum paham bagaimana menginstall win tanpa harus mengutak-atik MBR yang sudah ada, seperti opsi yang ada saat kita menginstall lin. Karena emang ga ada ya? Hehehehe.Atau ketika anda melakukan perubahan terhadap tabel partisi anda yang sekarang.

.docx, .xlsx, .pptx (Ms. Office 2007 File Format) di Linux (OpenOffice.org)?

Microsoft memiliki format file sendiri pada produk office suit terakhirnya, Microsoft Office 2007.Disebut dengan istilah OOXML. Dengan ekstensi .docx untuk Ms. Word, .xlsx untuk Ms. Excel, .pptx untuk Ms. Powerpoint dll. Sebenernya hampir sama dengan ekstensi office suit sebelumnya, cuman ditambahin ‘x’ dibelakangnya, hahaha! Format file baru ini banyak menuai protes dari kalangan praktisi opensource, mereka bahkan membuat petisi untuk menolak format file ini. Coba lihat di sini dan di sini, untuk petisi online nya.

 

Trus gimana cara buka format .docx, .xlsx, .pptx dengan OpenOffice.org?

 

KDE 4.0 codename “Cartoffel”

Bagi para pecinta KDE, bersiaplah menerima look n feel yang lebih dahsyat dari KDE! Sebab, pada 6 September lalu, telah diumumkan bahwa para pengembang KDE telah siap meluncurkan KDE versi terbarunya, 4.0!

KDE versi terbaru ini tentunya akan memiliki fitur-fitur yang lebih dahsyat lagi dibandingkan versi sebelumnya. Grafis yang memukau dan bening akan banyak menjadi ciri dari KDE versi terbaru ini. Disamping paket-paket yang terbundel bersama KDE ini tentunya.
